New kiwi blog

My friend Quentin has a new blog New Masses. In the first posts he looks at the National party's proposed bill to strip people of their employment rights in the first 90 days of a new job.

Like many I strongly opposed the US invasion of Iraq in 2003. I was in the march of 1 million in London and in smaller actions when I returned to New Zealand.

I wrote some articles for New Zealand magazines on the US invasion of Iraq and how the US was turning Iraq into its own economic colony. In the process of writing these articles I gained an interest in Iraqi history.

I just hope Iraqis will be given the chance to rebuild their country free of imperialist interference. Contrary to those who claim the removal of US troops could cause a civil war, I have long thought it was the presence of the troops that was the major cause of the instability. I believe that when the US and its allies leave, Iraqi families will be safer in the long term.

Best wishes and I hope that answers your question :)

PS: Over the past few days my friends and I have cheered on the actions of Mundtadhar al-Zaidi in throwing his shoes at Bush.

This morning New Zealand radio reported that some Iraqi's had commented that al-Zaidi only deserved jail because he missed!
